ESKDALE FESTIVAL GALA 2024
16 March 2024
Having entered 7 groups & individuals in to the festival this year, 4 from our own school and 3 from Springhead and Woodlands Special Schools, Miss Su was thrilled to be invited to the gala for the 4th time. This time it was the turn of Elsie Lee, our solo entry, to perform for everyone.

Miss Su was then surprised and honoured to be awarded the Barbara Benson-Smith MBE Award for Dance for her support of the festival and its development over the years. It was especially touching as it was the first time the plate has been awarded since Miss Benson passed away earlier this year.
HOGWARTS: A BALLET
1 July 2023
This year was our first performances at the Whitby Pavilion theatre - a much bigger venue than we have been used to so there was much excitement!

This was a brand new concept created by Miss Su giving a potted overview of all 7 Harry Potter books throughout the show. There were wizards and witches, magic and muggles and even a collection of magnificent beasts.

Proceeds to the show were donated to Camps International.

THE SLEEPING BEAUTY
10 July 2021
Our 2021 performance was a little later than planned following disruption to classes caused by the pandemic. However, despite these disruptions, students worked hard on Zoom and in person to recreate this classic fairytale.

The students were further challenged by the necessity of socially distanced choreography but adapted well and the the performance was well received by our socially distanced audience.

Proceeds from the show were donated to Trinity Centre, Whitby
ESKDALE FESTIVAL GALA 2020
14 March 2020
Miss Su was very proud to take 3 teams to the Eskdale Festival on 4 March 2020; the MESH Ballet Festival Team, comprising of students from the school, and groups from both Springhead School and Woodlands Academy in Scarborough, where Miss Su teaches classes funded by We Can Dance.
After performing their own choreography, What is Love, the MESH Ballet Festival Team were invited back to perform at the gala evening on 14 March. After this performance the team were presented with the Barbara Benson-Smith MBE plate for dance. This is the first time the plate has been awarded.

THE SWAN PRINCESS
9 March 2019
Our 2019 performance of The Swan Princess was held at Caedmon College (now the Whitby Sixth Form Centre) and included a showcase of all the exam work the students had been working on along with our story ballet.

Every student, from our youngest to our oldest, performed above expectations to turn this event into pure magic for everyone in the audience as well as backstage.

Proceeds form the show were donated to Wetwheels Yorkshire
PETER AND THE WOLF
15 July 2017
One of our aims at MESH is to bring people together doing what they enjoy and Peter and the Wolf was a perfect example of that. From the diddiest dancer to the most mature of students, from the helpers front of house to the helpers back stage and from the most confident of performers to those that overcame feelings of absolute terror to achieve something they never thought they could. All for the love of dance.

Miss Su expects a lot from her students and will push each to excel within their own ability; however, each and every student left her speechless on the day. Behaviour both on and off stage was wonderful and all the characters came alive during the performance to a degree that had not been seen in rehearsals.

Proceeds from the show were donated to WHISH
